| No seu último texto sobre a actualidade do wrestling, o ex-lutador Lance Storm comentou a recente prisão de Jeff Hardy, acusado de posse e tráfico de narcóticos, pouco tempo após sair da WWE. I don’t like delving into people’s personal lives to much on the site, but I’m getting swamped with email questions already about the Jeff Hardy situation and the breaking news of his arrest for drug trafficking, so I figure I’m going to have to say something.
The first thing I want to say is that people need to remember that being charged with something and being guilty of something, can be two different things. I’ve gotten email from fans that were both crushed and appalled to read that Jeff Hardy was dealing drugs. Let me just say, I don’t believe for a second Jeff Hardy was selling drugs and I’m pretty sure that any trafficking charges are based solely on the quantity of drugs found, not him actually selling them. I believe in the US there are limits on the amount of certain drugs you can have in your possession, and as soon as those limits are reached the charge is trafficking, because they feel you have more of the substance than would normally be considered for personal use.
If that is the case that certainly does not put Jeff free and clear, but I think having your own personal drug problems (no matter how severe) and being a drug trafficker are two completely different things. If the quantities of drugs, reportedly found in Jeff’s possession, are accurate then we have to assume he has a very serious drug problem, and that, even more so than his pending legal woes, is my biggest concern.
When Jeff was suspended from WWE the last time, for a Wellness violation, and then shortly there after lost his house and dog in a fire my heart went out to him. I think a lot of people (myself included) thought and hoped that was a turning point for Jeff and he had gotten his life in order since. Unfortunately that does not appear to be the case.
I’m going to hold off passing judgment on Jeff, on the legal front, until he has his day in court, and on the personal front I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that he finally gets the help he seems to need. I don’t know how many more chances he’s going to get. I am not a sympathetic person when it comes to drug use, and I am not saying all should be forgotten or forgiven. Whatever fall out there is from this, is on him and him alone, but I do wish him well and I hope for the best. Jeff is a great guy who has unfortunately gotten himself in some heavy trouble. It’s ultimately up to him to get himself out, but if he can we should all support him.
